Job Summary:

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) you will deliver both direct and indirect quality care, demonstrating respect, compassion, and sensitivity towards all individuals. Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, you will uphold the dignity of each person by fostering a safe and comforting therapeutic environment, by promoting and enhancing independence among patients/residents. This entails helping residents with personal hygiene, mobility, meals, and various other daily activities and making the residents feel valued and respected.

The Dementia Unit offers 24-hour care for people with Alzheimers disease and related memory disorder. Care is provided utilizing both a medical and social model of care with therapeutic programs tailored to each residents needs, abilities, and preferences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, oral care, hair care, shaving, nail care, grooming, toileting, and eating.
  • Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and positioning using appropriate techniques and stretches, as well as using proper mechanical lifts, body mechanics and a variety of equipment designed to support the patient and ergonomically help the CNA.
  • Executes basic physical therapy tasks, including facilitating both active and passive range of motion exercises, and applying immobilizers, splints, and slings as needed.
  • Support residents during mealtimes by serving or feeding residents and ensuring they receive proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized living environment for residents, including changing linens, personal laundry and tidying personal space while follow protocols of infection control.
  • Respond promptly to resident calls, pagers, call lights to for assistance, addressing their needs with patience and kindness.
  • Collaborate with licensed nursing staff to implement care plans and ensure residents receive high-quality, personalized care.
  • Document resident information accurately and timely, including vital signs, intake/output measurements, and care provided.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents and their families, providing emotional support and companionship as needed.
  • Participate in educational programs and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge in caregiving techniques and resident care.
  • Adhere to facility policies and procedures, including infection control protocols and safety guidelines within the scope of the CNA position.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and compassion in all interactions with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • Supporting student learning is a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to contribute to creating a welcoming environment and to actively assist students in their educational experience, regardless of their specific role.
  • Other duties as consistent with this role. Some positions may include more administrative functions.

Med Techs CNAs perform additional duties included:

  • Administers medications via oral, topical vaginal, rectal routes and by inhalation fire. puffs). This excludes parenteral route and any Schedule Il medications. Medications are administered according to established policies and procedures.
  • Charts all medications given, omitted, or refused.
  • Keep medication carts, cabinets, and area clean.
  • Reorders medications according to established policies and procedures.
  • Receives re-ordered medications (exclusive of Schedule II). Verifies correct medication and amount was received. Puts medication in medication room or on medication cart for use.
  • Observes for medication effectiveness and reaction and reports observation to licensed nurse promptly.
  • Reports medication errors, complaints, requests, refusals and omissions to licensed nurse promptly.
